happy to be here

Hi,

I'm happy to find this forum and to connect with other players. Well, actually calling myself a player is a bit of a stretch. A friend gave me a wooden shakuhachi 10 years ago, I noodled around on it not knowing what I was doing for a couple of years, and then bought a new one from Monty Levenson (which I love). I continue to fool around, playing more sometimes and less others. I've generally been satisfied to just improvise wherever my mind and technique will allow, but recently I bought "Introductory Manual for Kinko Honkyoku" by Robert Grous, and am learning the notation. I have questions about that, and hope this group will be able to help - I'll post those in a separate message.

Aside from the shakuhachi, I've been meditating for about 13 years, doing yoga for a couple, I bicycle around for transportation and do research in the area of mental health to pay the bills.
