Hi radiOgnome, the hotchiku looks beautiful, do you know who made it?
I just added the pictures of the signatures.
As far as leaving the inscriptions untouched, I'm not sure if inscriptions wearing off fits the definition of wabi-sabi, but it seems safest not to touch them. However, you might notice in the one pic of the signatures that I put some preventative topical bindings on it. I'm 100 percent sure I don't want cracks even though they do give a nice wabi-sabi effect when they are repaired.

pornography
1857, "description of prostitutes," from Fr. pornographie, from Gk. pornographos "(one) writing of prostitutes," from porne "prostitute," originally "bought, purchased" (with an original notion, probably of "female slave sold for prostitution;" related to pernanai "to sell," from PIE root per- "to traffic in, to sell," cf. L. pretium "price") + graphein "to write." Originally used of classical art and writing; application to modern examples began 1880s. Main modern meaning "salacious writing or pictures" represents a slight shift from the etymology, though classical depictions of prostitution usually had this quality. Pornographer is earliest form of the word, attested from 1850. Pornocracy (1860) is "the dominating influence of harlots," used specifically of the government of Rome during the first half of the 10th century by Theodora and her daughters.
floating world influence maybe?
still a strange use of language to describe beautiful flutes
perhaps a discussion of the origins of the " shakuhachi" euphemism in Japanese is more closer to the definition

Perhaps a very good word, though, to describe "collectors' market prices".

I suppose that for anything, when presented in the right light, there will be an onlooker driven into a hazy stupor of wanton and lustful fantasy. Yes, even a shakuhachi can be fodder for the pornographically persuaded. And what of camellia oil?
