Playing a shakuhachi 'backwards'

Did you know you can produce a note or two if you play from the opposite side of the mouthpiece?  Well, now you know.

...don't ask me how I discovered this.  I cannot recall.

I tried it once. Lots of Devils Intervals came out.

Re: Playing a shakuhachi 'backwards'

When I started to make my first shakuhachi, I didn't know how to blow, or where to blow...

I used to ask to myself if the cut in angle was to rest the chin...So, you can imagine the amplitude of sides were I blown... A monkey trying to do something that he doesn't know what thing it is...

The reversed flute emitted some sounds...and those sounds made me believe until now that there is something in the air that's just movement...movements in which  we can , as a friend told me some time ago (via web cam), " 'draw'  the sound as if we were using sound brushes..."       And movements that for a moment where there and  for a moment didn't where there (???)...

Beginner mind... I think that it's there that most relevant thing's to our growth...

A big hug to all who already blew shakuhachi from a weird angle!
