I would like to invite any of you to share a very important birthday celebration with me in Kyoto, Japan. On Saturday, November 21st, 2009, I will be playing in a concert (with many others) to help celebrate Kurahashi Yoshio Sensei’s 60th Birthday. From that day onward, he will take his father’s name and be known, for the rest of his life, as KURAHASHI YODO II. Thus, the establishment of a new, and very important Shakuhachi lineage!! (Most of you also know that Kurahashi Sensei will be hosting the next International Shakuhachi Festival. It will be in Kyoto, Japan, in 2012.)
This concert on Nov.21st., (one of 3-4 ) will be the “high-point” of my annual trip to Japan, from Nov. 6, 2009, to Nov. 23, 2009 (dates inclusive). This year I am adding an extra 3 free days for no extra cost. The total price for everything on the tour (except for private Shakuhachi lessons, Kabuki, and Noh Tickets, alcohol and Airfare) will be $2,950- for the full 18 days if paid by April 15, 2009. Afterwards, it will go up by $200-. The reason for this is that I need to make Hotel reservations in Kyoto by this date. If you are interested, but can not do the entire trip, I also have a pro-rated price available. The above price covers all transportation, Room and Board, 3 meals per day, and all admissions to Temples and Shrines, etc. We will stay in Tenri-Shi (Nara Prefecture), Kyoto, and Tokyo.
Many of you know that I have been taking groups of people on one or more trips annually to Japan since 1980. This year will mark my 30th year of sharing the Japan that I love with others. If any of you would like to have a daily itemized Itinerary, please contact me offline at nyogetsu@gmail.com or call me at 917-207-6724.
Some highpoints (besides the Shakuhachi Concerts ) will be:
Grand Kabuki and Noh theatre viewing
Day trips to NARA, KAMAKURA, IBARAKI-KEN (Hitachi City), UJI
Imperial Garden visits
Buddhist Temple visits
Shinto Shrine visits
Nara National Museum visit
“Folk Village” visit in Kawasaki
Onsen (Japanese Hot Springs)
Shakuhachi Maker and Teacher visits
Kurahashi Sensei has been , perhaps the most well known, and the most often studied with Japanese Shakuhachi teacher in North America. I am hoping that people will join me that have benefited from his teaching, and that wish to take this time to have an incredible trip to Japan, very inexpensively.
Some of the teachers (and their students) and areas that he has specifically worked with over the past 3 decades are:
Colorado- The Shakuhachi Camp of the Rockies -Cory Sperry, etc.
California- Many years in San Francisco and Los Angeles -Phil Gelb
Texas- in Dallas with Stan Richardson
Montreal, Canada- with Bruno Deschenes
Portland, Maine- with Phil James
Boston, Mass- David Duncavage, and Robert Jonas
…and with me in:
New York City (both the Manhattan KiSuiAn Dojo, and in Brookyln-
Kyoshin-An Dojo)
,,,,and my KiSuiAn branches (for the past 20 plus years) in:
Philadelphia
Baltimore (Timonium)
Washington, D.C (Ashton, MD.)
Rochester, New York
My trips have never been only for Shakuhachi players, and usually there are at least 1/3 or more people who go with me that do not play Shakuhachi. So, bring spouses, children, and reserve your spot early !!

I would like to add something to my previous post.
The members on this trip (as well as all of my trips ) are not limited to people of North America.
