     I can't tell you how many times my wife and I have fantasized getting the hell out of here.(U.S.A.). We don't like the culture (corporate dominated-i.e. denatured) and the politics are getting more ghastly all the time.  At $1500 a month health insurance premium (HMO 2 people) I'm ready to shoot somebody. It's disturbing my Buddhist principles. One minute I'm imagining merging with the Buddha and the next minute I'm  imagining merging a baseball bat with a health care executive's skull. I obviously have some more work to do and because of extended family I'm  guess I'll have to do it here.  I hope we are on the verge  of a turnaround. It's actually quite dramatic.

That's quite reasonable. The situation here is diabolical for the individual purchaser of private health insurance. Go Obama!

My wife and I pay $270 AUD as a couple.

Here in Taiwan, I pay NT$500 (about US$15) a month for my health insurance -- unless there's some major procedure, any trip to a clinic, hospital or dentist costs only NT$150 (about US$4.50). If you're looking for cheap health care which is sucking a government's capital dry, you're welcome to come to Taiwan

Here in Japan we normally pay $100 a month for my wife and new baby. But, my wife is on about a year's maternity leave and we are all exempt of all medical insurance fees for a year. If we visit the doctor though my wife and I pay 30% (baby is free til age 12). I have to say though that the medical fees aren't ias nflated as the US so 30% isn't much, this spring I paid about $12 to fix a few cavities. We're planning on moving back to the states at some point, I hope Obama and the Dems can get their stuff together and get with the rest of the world on this basic human rights health care issue. My youngest brother is struggling with the system and my other brother joined the army mostly for the benefits..Sad situation. The greed has really gone too far.

I am so happy to be from a country where health insurance is for everyone - for free. But we are - after all - world champion in taxes! There is always a dark side to everything! 
But hey, the government gives us salaries when studying from the age of 16 till we finish with the Masters. I shouldn't complain.

I do hope for a change for the people of the US on the health insurance front! Good luck!

PS. We get 9 month maternity leave - for the mother and 2 month (I think) for the father + later on one of the parents can take another year off on highest unemployment rate.
