Ireland Enlists (officially).
Hello from Sunny Ireland,
I thought I'd better wait til I had my first lesson to introduce myself: I attended it tonight in 'Dublin's Fair City' and it went very well.
Learnt the basic scale, names of notes, introduced to the chromatic scale: 1/4, half holes etc... and have forgotten ALL the terminology. Have some hand-outs to get to grips with basic notation.
I play Irish traditional music on the simple system flute and Irish ('uilleann' or 'union') bagpipes. I think that playing the simple system flute has given me some advantage as on those animals you're generally required to change embouchure shape, alter air direction and air stream size etc. to make good tones. Also, the old styles of Irish flute playing that I like (and have tried to emulate) employ some nice 'over blowing' and other dynamic techniques that are similar to some of the shakuhachi effects.
Anyway, nice to be able to avail of this forum.

Thanks for the welcome.
The chap who is helping me out is not an officially licensed teacher, but he has studied in Japan and elsewhere and knows, and can do, much more than me on the yoke!
I enjoyed his playing and his teaching style very much.
