I'll pre-order one!
Can I have it in pink and with the text 'I've Got Roots! — International Shakuhachi Day 2010' on it.
I want a cool shakuhachi playing porn star on it too! Ok?
And last condition: I only pay in €€€€ and not the outdated other currencies you suggest.

Let's see, ¥86000 = about $1272 US or ... €3,5.
I take Paypal.
Then all I'll need is a model for the "shakuhachi playing porn star" picture. Kiku, please send your audition photos here:

Can't you just photoshop a shakuhachi on this photo:

It's my favourite picture!
PS. Taraku, what's Kwaanza?

... some of us, who enjoy life, who value our shakuhachi friends and who are grateful to our shakuhachi ancestors, will on February 6, 2010 be observing a peaceful, joyous and filial International Shakuhachi Day.
That sounds good, although I will be watching porn too, albeit in a peaceful, joyous, but decidedly non-filial way. It's hard to be filial when you are roughing up a suspect.
I also volunteer for the porn star position, even if unsought. And, I can tell you there will be no tastefully positioned roses. It'll be all taint and coin purse. I understand that we may have some creative differences on this project.

Google Ron Karenga while you're at it.
If people generally knew his backstory, Kwanzaa would be in the dumpster where it belongs.

The general establishment of 'Days' smacks of half-assed-ness to me. Who really pays attention any of 'em other than for the obligatory

I doubt Perry was really establishing "Shakuhachi Day" he was probably just saying, "How cool we're all doing something on Feb. 6, what are the rest of you doing".
No need to turn it into an international political slagfest!
Thanks Brian, This is pretty much it. I wrote on the original posting that it could be an "impromptu" day.
I, for one, am here on the Shakuhachi Forum to be part of a community. Ken and Brian has provided us a place to share our experiences, which I greatly appreciate. The ability to share is one important lesson I am presently relearning as my kids are now old enough to have playdates. In the last year, I have witnessed that kids who learned to share earlier tend to have more fun and more friends. This is the process of socialization. The more complete the process is, the easier the person will fit into a community, or society. Anyone up for an international playdate on Feb 6th?

Well, I thought I'd let all the Americans on the forum explain.... and not Father Google for once.
Thanks for the link, Abraxas!

Yeah, count me in! To make something an official day means you'd have to bribe politicians, UN officials, etc..., anyway.
I'll keep certain official international social awareness days close at heart on Feb 6th, also. All you other guys with precarious appreciations can just keep warm and cozy with your DVD players. No wonder there's so many hand-wrist grip concerns

I will be breathing shakuhachi for sure!!!
This year I will be again on a rock festival near my city, and again I will be giving a free caveman-workshop on how to make a simple flute using hands to divide by ten (it was almost a survival workshop, for sure) ...
Last year was a lot of fun, and at night, after many bands, the shakuhachi has also ressonated in the woods, to calm down the crazy-rock...

To be honest, when I first saw the shirt I thought, "Man, kind of looks like some guy just put tempera paint on an old grimy T-shirt." But for $1272 US, I know better. That's premium craftsmanship right there. I particularly love the anti-consumerist nod at the bottom. Very stylish. Anyway, here's some pics:

Great! The best time to play is after a nap. And remember to bring baby wipes if you share flutes
Now we have UK, USA, Japan, Canada and Brazil!

In my country, Tasmania, it is already International Shakuhachi Day. I will celebrate it by blowing long tones in the sauna, then blow shakuhachi at Chado-The Way of Tea. Thanks to Perry and X. for starting this holiday.

Here in England it is International Shakuhachi Day in 1 h 46 minutes.
Hurray!
Michael Soumei Coxall and I will certainly celebrate with local shakuhchi aficionados!

My daughter, Leah and I will be blowing long tones on our 2.0s (jinashi). She's in Hoboken, NJ and I've got Tennessee covered. Great idea Perry and thanks for all the goodwill everyone!

This is great. I'll wake early. Play many long tones and some honkyoku, dedicating the merits to all of you (specifically Phil James). Then, go make a new shakuhachi at the Zen Center with Perry's guidance. Clean up the bamboo dust. Then...play more... A good day. Gratitude to all.
