Hello all,
My name is Tuan (Canada). I do not own a shakuhachi yet but I am bidding on one finally after a month of just seeing whichever speaks to me. I played the flute in grade school for a few months but I couldn't make any sounds from it. I was just graded on my fingering since no sound came out
I don't know why I chose the flute at the time. I believe my teacher said she can see everyone in their instrument but she didn't tell us which one, so I figured I would see what instrument speaks to me and the flute did, but no sound ever came out.
I am now 30 and after a spiritual awakening, it once again calls me but this time its the shakuhachi. I don't know anything about octaves/pitches nor am I at all musically inclined. I am actually a software programmer in my profession which I am slowly gravitating away from. My prior interest in music consisted of Rap and more Rap and maybe some R&B when the wife is around to keep her sane Everything has changed now so we will see where this journey goes...
I am limited in budget and experience/skill but I plan on owning a shakuhachi soon (a beginner model) to see if we can finally become one. I am joining this forum to learn more about this complex yet simple instrument.
Peace Always and Graciousness to providing this forum along with all users

Welcome to the forum.
The shakuhachi can be very difficult in the beginning.... but it is worth the effort.
I hope there is a teacher near where you live... or if not.. there are plenty of good teachers who teach via Skype on the internet.
Good luck with it all!

Thanks for the well wishes and advice...
I am happy to say I've just won a recycled Shakuhachi from Perry and will be beginning my shakuhachi journey in a months time when I receive it.
Thanks again...I look to this forum as my teacher first and then I'll allow Life to show me when I receive it...and if all that fails, I guess it will be time to seek a teacher
