Hello from Los Angeles

Hi Everyone,

I have an interesting story. Three years ago was introduced to the Shakuhachi and the Bansuri (Indian Transverse Flute) at the same time. I loved both but I wanted to study Yoga so I moved to India and began my study of the Indian Bansuri. After 2 1/2 years in India I came across a Japanese man making Shakuhachi with India Bamboo. I was studying Buddhism at the time and soon I was in love with the Shakuhachi again and returned home to Los Angeles. I now have a Shakuhachi from Tai Hei. Beautiful how the Shakuhachi found me again in India. I hope to study here in Los Angeles for a while and then study in Japan. Any recommendations for teachers in Los Angeles or Japan would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

Welcome to the forum.

I'd suggest checking komuso.com for teachers.

Eric,

Knowing what style you want to learn is an important part of picking a teacher. What I did was pick the style then find the teacher. It is a much narrower search that way.

Re: Hello from Los Angeles

I just noticed that someone gave me the avatar image of James Vaughan of the Everton. Thanks! Coincidentally my fathers name is actually James Vaughan (no relation to the footballer) and I lived in England for 5 years. :-)

That "somebody" is our custom designed avatarbot which automatically creates avatars for new members. It is psychic. Ken is in the process of patenting it.

Zen is not easy.
It takes effort to attain nothingness.
And then what do you have?
Bupkes.

Re: Hello from Los Angeles

Welcome to the forum, Eric. I am sure you found the best teacher around L.A. So do let us know how it went and how you are getting on with the shakuhachi.
And yes, this custom-designed automated avatar AND title-giving machine is....great! wink
