Hey all, My name's Fausto (not my real name, but you'll never know....). I'm actually a student of Taiko. During practicing pieces and seeing concerts I've noticed a decent use of the fue (I think also called the Shinobue?) although they might be different flutes (think fue is the general term for flut in japanese?). As you can tell I'm completely new to japanese flutes, and I was wondering if anyone could help me get started with learning how to play the fue. Obviously I would need a flute and a way to learn how to play it, so if anyone knows a place where I could buy a cheap beginner flute and some way to learn how to play it. I have never played a flute except the recorder in the 4th grade (yippie....) so I wouldn't know any technical terminology anyone would use, please use language that's easy for a newbie to understand =P. I was referred here by a friend who played the Shakuhachi, she told me that people on here play a multitude of flute styles so people on here would know where/how to buy and learn how to play the fue.

ooh, is a fue (or shinobue whichever you call it) a transverse flute? not sure, I'm ignorant to flute anything

Hello Fausto, even magicians have to learn. Here you'll meet shakuhachiplayers. Please try Google or Wikipedia on the words shinobue, shakuhachi and traverso (in Italian) or flute (in English)

Yeah, I understand that this is a Shakuhachi forum, but I figured most people weren't limited to one type of flute. I ordered a shinobue and if anyone is in bowling green, Ohio, you'll see a very annoying guy trying to play flute terribly at the local parks =P guess that's how ya learn though!! I also found some forums for other types of flutes, such as Dizi (Which I plan on studying while I'm in China) and asking around for some shinobue tips. If anyone finds any obscure shinobue resources I would much appreciate knowing of them. I plan on learning Shakuhachi after I get out of college. Couldn't hurt, right?!

Fausto, about the shinobue, maybe my shakuhachiteacher Vëronique Piron can give you some advise; she's also a shinobue player. Mind that she's a very busy lady at the moment, she lives in France and I'm very sorry to delude you, she's not obscure.

Bowling Green is right next door. And I have a nice yokobue that need attention. I can't teach it though.
