Hello, everyone

My name is Rashaad. I've been practicing shakuhachi for 11 weeks.  I decided to go on Youtube and make a channel of my shakuhachi playing. I have no teacher, so I go by mostly sound. I hope to learn much in this forum.

Re: Hello, everyone

Hello Rashaad and welcome.  Where are you in the world and are you interested in the traditions of the instrument or using the instrument as a vehicle for your own music, and do the two possibly intertwine for you?

Re: Hello, everyone

I am interested in both. Listening to traditional Japanese music was one of the reasons why I wanted to play shakuhachi. I also play my own music. Being legally blind, it is a bit difficult to read and remember the notes to the more longer Japanese songs. What I do is just play what I am feeling. People seem to gravitate toward the music I play. Sometimes, I can play songs just by listening to sound.

I am located in Alabama. In my area, no one knows anything about shakuhachi. I'm probably the only one who plays one in my general area.
