Hi all,
The forum looks a bit slow these days. Glad I found it again. Thought I'd see if I can start a discussion.
So I have started playing again after a few years hiatus. I was going through my books and books of notation.
I noticed I placed Kyushu Reibo in the back of the notation book I was studying with my teacher last.
Then after playing it for a moment it came back to me that Yamagoe is the same piece.. with a few adjustments.
Of course that is why I placed in the back of that book of notation.
That started me looking at the similarities and differences in honkyoku that have been transmitted into different schools.
For example I have notation for a lot of the Myoanji Taizan-ha pieces in probably 5 different forms.
The official Taizan-ha versions are the most straight forward. Chikuho-ryu versions with a bit more flare. Watazumi versions with lots of flare etc..
Maybe for a discussion just input your general thoughts on the subject, whatever comes to mind,
or give examples of your favorite version of any given honkyoku
or note subtle differences between versions
or whatever..
I'll try to look through what I have and see what looks interesting.
Chris
