Hello all,
I was just sitting and thinking about food here. Do any of you know of some good (not too cosly) vegetarian or vege-friendly resturants in Kyoto city, the farther north the better, less transport costs. I eat like an ascetic here, I don't quite trust that the food will be vegetarian, even in the states I don't quite trust prepared food by someone who does not know me and my dietary beliefs. Well any pointers would be nice.

You can eat vegatarian buddhist food in the garden of Ryôanji. I ate here a few years ago, it's a bit expensive but very good and you have a nice view on the moss garden, sitting on the tatami. Sorry, I haven't got the phone number here, in France.
In Japan, you also can eat vegetarian in many restaurants wich are not stamped "vegetarian"...

Thanks, I've walked by there several times, but have neglected to visit. As for other resturants, I worry about, gelatin, broth, rennet, those types of hidden animal products I do not eat.

There is a really good pure vegetarian restaurant in Daitokuji complex. There is another one just outside Kinkakuji.
Also Kurahashi Sensei told me about a great tofu restaurant there, maybe you can ask him about that.

thanks, I'll check those out. Kurahashi sensei has lots of good info. He pointed me in the direction of some good hiking trails around here, I'll remember to ask about the bejitarian no resutoran.
