I NEED A TEACHER PLEASE

Hi guys -

I used to play the shakuhachi like a fairly good beginner, some eight years ago, but alas I got away from it until just now.  And it's almost all gone.  I'm in Mayo, Florida, a tiny hick town half way between Tallahassee, Gainesville and Jacksonville, and I'd bet unlimited money I'm the only man in this county who knows what a shakuhachi is smile   Does anyone know of a teacher or teachers near here?  I guess it's legal to put my email address on here?  I'm at oldmanriver@alltel.net.  Thank you very much.  Dr. Gene Neill.

Re: I NEED A TEACHER PLEASE

If you have a reasonably fast internet connection, you might consider online lessons. There are several teachers here who do them, including Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin, Alcvin Ramos, Michael Chikuzen Gould, and myself. There may be others...

Re: I NEED A TEACHER PLEASE

I live in Gainesville.  A nice but "new agey" guy named George Tortorelli is a local musician who plays many instruments, including the shakuhachi.  Not a traditional player, but I am sure a resource who can assit.  I have no contact info for him, but he does live in Gainesville, so try Google or the white pages.  I saw him a few weeks ago at the farmer's market, so he is kicking around.  I got my first bamboo pentatonic flute from him (he made it), not exactly what I would call a shakuhachi, though he did.   I am saving up to buy a shakuhachi, and until then, I have no flute at all.
Feel free to contact me, I WILL be getting back into this asap...
