Bruce,
I have to say thanks.... Pavane was a nice surprise. I don't read Western Staff so the Cursive was a pleasant surprise. I've tried noodling a bit with Riley Lee's "Floating World" but my in experience in going from ear to shakuhachi has a long way to go.
Thanks again,
Ken C

Thanks for sharing your hard work Bruce. I look forward to playing the Sibelius. Is it in the original key?

Nice.

Could someone please explain me those marks(eg. two open and full circles) and numbers on the score(I have downloaded Dvoraks Largo), or just redirect me to where it is explained.
Thanks a lot.

KenC - Thanks, glad you like it. More selections to come.
Tairaku - I don't have the score in front of me,but my except book has four flats in the intro and it sounds minor which would make it F minor. However the theme in question sounds major, so that would but it in A-flat unless there's a modulation somewhere.
Marek - Open (white) circles represent 2 beats, closed circles (black) represent one count, triangles are rests. Therefore, the 2 open circles in measure 4 on a RE represent 4 counts. mm is metronome marking. Numbers to the right of the columns are measure numbers. HTH. Please ask if anything else is unclear, it will help me build an "editor's notes" page.
Thanks for the interest shown so far. More titles are in the pipeline, including, more solos, more duets, trios, quartets, quintets, and sextets.

I hope everyone appreciates the skill and effort that goes into these things.
(Not to mention the time. Bruce, you must be awfully fast, or stay up nights, or both )

I agree with Edosan! Bruce your work is very much appreciated. It will take me awhile to get through all of the songs, but if there were an award for donating to the good of the shakuhachi society, you would definately deserve it. Looking forward to any other songs that move you enough to transcribe them. Thanks

Josh,
Thank you for writing. It's good to know one's work is appreciated. More works are in the pipeline, and another departure from Euro-centric music is in the planning stages.

Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, please?

How 'bout some Cesar Franck?

Mass in B Minor for shakuhachi orchestra?
Offline
Wow, input! Thanks for the suggestions! Toccata and Fugue appears to require some massive massaging, but I'll continue to look at it. Some Cesar Franck can happen. Masses can be problematic depending on how important the orchestral parts are, but some have been moved to a "look at these" pile for further study.
Thanks for the ideas,
Bruce

I'm anxiously waiting for 'Also Sprach Zarathustra'.
Wouldn't that be killer as a sextet?

Thus Spoke the Shakuhachi. The theme from "A Bamboo Odyssey".
The collection has really grown in the few weeks since I last checked. Nice work Bruce !

Wow. An embarassment of riches. Thanks for all your time and effort.
If you're taking requests, how about "Ave Maria"?
I'm not religious, but I find a lot of religious music quite moving. My wife is religious, however, and I think that piece might earn some brownie points.

Got me!
Good thing you were jesting, because "Shakata and Fugue", "Ride of the Shakyries", and "Also Sprach Shakuthustra" look way too hard. 8^)
Tairaku - I've found 2 Cesar Frank titles in my library that look amenable to transcription.
TC - Thanks for the thanks.
Yooper - Thanks for the thanks. I have "Ave Maria", two versions, Schubert and Gounod, in the pipeline. If you're thinking of another one, please let me know.

Bruce
