Just seen on an eBay, a seller who makes vertical flutes and markets them as 'shakuhachi,' adds the following to his sales pitch:
"GREAT (AND LEGAL) SELF-DEFENSE WEAPON."
Nice.

Someone else was recently marketing combat flutes on eBay. I think they were PVC transverse flutes with shakuhachi tuning.
But I think that's actually the niche the shakusteel was created to fill.
