Hello everyone. My name is Jaris and I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I am a musician by profession. My interest in shakuhachi began about three years ago and I began playing about two years ago. My love for this instrument has steadily grown to depths I never imagined. I am currently trying to give birth to the third octave which is proving to be quite a challenge, but worth the effort. I'm afraid that my love for the shakuhachi is surpassing my love for my original instruments...ok, I'm not afraid, I am fully embracing the change.

Jaris,
Welcome. I also found the shakuhachi to be seducing me away from the instrument I play for a living. I have to remind myself to practice the saxophone. I never have to remind myself to practice shakuhachi. Oh well, it sure ain't the worst thing that could happen to a guy. Besides there is nothing we can do for you now, it sounds like you're already hooked. Again, welcome.

Hi Jaris, Welcome to the forum!
I used to play a lot of electric guitar and bass. These days, it's mostly shakuhachi.
Looking forward to hearing of your discoveries.
All the best, Perry

Hi Jaris,
It's amazing the numbers of people who had a different 'main' instrument for many years and either found or was found by the shakuhachi and made a shift. I was one as well. Much like Jim, I played the sax for a long time and moved to the shakuhachi after it and I collided.
Welcome to the migration!
