Mujitsu and Tairaku's Shakuhachi BBQ

THE AUTUMN SHAKUHACHI CAMP OF THE ROCKIES will be held in Loveland, Colorado Oct. 9~13.  If you've never had the chance to join this camp in the gorgeous rocky mountain setting 1 hr. outside of Boulder, Colorado you must come this year. And if you have participated before we'll be expecting you again! It's just too nice of an opportunity to pass up.  There is always one of the best staff of teachers of any camp in the world. This year brings 2 teachers from Japan: Mr. Yoshio kurahasi and Mr. Kaoru Kakizakai and three from the U.S.: David Kansuke Wheeler, Michael Chikuzen Gould and Mrs. Yoko Hiraoka on the koto and shamisen to ensure superb hands on expert guidance. You will find quite a variety of styles being taught: Meian Sect, Kinko Sect, Yokoyama style honkyoku, Tozan sect,  Sankyoku music, modern and traditional styles. The list of songs to be taught at this at this point includes: sankyoku songs; Aki no Kyoku and Hagi no Tsuyu;  Honkyoku songs: Kyorei, Darahni,Takiochi, Fudai Tsuru no Sugomori, Azuma no Kyoku, and folk tunes of Hokkai Minyocho (with koto) and Yamanaka Bushi (solo version), plus more yet to be decided.

Go to the web site at shakucamp.com and check out  the unique Absolute Beginner's Classes which are being offered as well as Intermediate and Advanced classes. There will always be a professional teacher available for the absolute beginners so, don't worry if you're just starting to learn shakuhachi. There's no better place to start. Some previous participants have actually received their first shakuhachi  upon arriving at camp! We'll get you set up so you're starting out with good habits from the beginning which will save you lots of time and energy later.
