Performance Ritual, Manhong Kang in NYC Oct 23 - 25, 2008

The Moments.

Hi All, I'm improvising on shakuhachi in a performance ritual with Manhong Kang, a performance artist/teacher from Korea. Manhong is a major force in the Korean Contemporary arts scene. He has written a book on meditation and dance. The Moments is based on what happens moment to moment in the mind during meditation. What happens in the mind is transfered to the body on stage.

I am performing the music with Yukio Tsuji, also on shakuhachi. Instruments include all kinds of world percussions including a gigantic two meter Korean Taiko drum, hand made instruments and found objects. Manhong does not want composed music, only what happens in the moment. It's quite exciting.

The evening is a shared bill with two authentic Korean Shaman. Leading the chant and drumming is Jeong Doryeong.

The evening runs about one hour.

The theater is like a mini French Rococo opera house.
