Blue, maker of good condenser mics, has come out with a USB preamp for XLR mic input.
It's called the Icicle, supplies 48V phantom power, and costs USD60.00 at Sweetwater:

Have you or do you know someone that used it?
If this thing works well then all you have to invest in is the Microphone. I tried various setup and was never able to find something good unless I spent at least 1500$. With this if you are into Shakuhachi only then it would be this and the Mic only. Sounds very good if not too good to be true.

It's a new item from Blue, which is a very reputable outfit with great products. Sweetwater is also a good place to buy from, and they'd take it
back if you didn't like it.
