Hi all, my name is Christopher Baasner I am 22 years old I live in Berlin. First of all please excuse my english, it is not good at all cause I didnĀ“t spoke alot of english for along time. I came to the Shakuhachi trough the Xiao, I have ever heared alot of Shakuhachi music and on one day I decided to learn Shakuhachi. I bought my flute from Perry Yung. I want to play Shakuhachi for a self finding experience and meditation.
I started learning Shakuhachi by myself for about 2 months (dont know it anymore, maybe Perry will now it) but it was so hard to get a good sound out of it so I decided to find a good teacher but here in Germany it is not that easy to find a teacher. As I read that Jim Franklin lives in Germany I mailed him about giving me lessons, now Jim Franklin is my teacher. The first lesson was on Monday this week and as I can say Jim is a really nice and good teacher. It was just amazing to hear im play.
So I think this is enough for now, maybe we will know each other better in a while.
Best wishes!

Greetings Christopher and welcome. It's good to hear that you've found a teacher that you trust and respect. A very necessary part of the equation. All the best in your journey.

Hi Christopher, welcome to our 'gang' of European shakuhachi players; maybe we'll meet on one of the coming summerschools. You're really lucky to have found Jim; I've learned to know him as a good teacher and a nice person.

Hi Christopher,
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome.
Reading your message and your reaction to your teacher's playing took me years back in time as I relived that same moment when I first heard my teacher play the Shakuhachi so elegantly. It was indeed amazing! After years of poor sound or rather no sound, it was my Shakuhachi teacher, who played this instrument so clearly and so beautifully that it changed my life forever.
Thank you for taking me back to that moment, one that I will never forget.
Best regards,
Kyle.
