Hanko identification

Personally I like to know some background from the shakuhachi's I play.
I have one with this Hanko:

I hope someone can recognize it -or read it- the hanko is a bit shallow.

thanks for watching it,

greetings. Bas

Re: Hanko identification

Hi,
It reads Nakajima, or possibly Naka-shima, but it is a pretty common Japanese name so it might be difficult to track down exactly who it is.  The name is  comon but I guess you could translate the characters as "middle island." I don't know what style you flute is but it seems like an average last name.

Re: Hanko identification

Hi Bas, though Josh is quite right with the reading, the kanji for Nakajima (shima) could also be read Chutou.
I would like to remind folks that the Shakuhachi Maker's Hanko Data Base is steadily growing.  Please check it out for your reference.  I will add the hanko for Nakajima and if any of you have additions, please submit them with any information you might have.
cheers
Jeff

Re: Hanko identification

You got that flute from me. I showed the hanko to a few people and they said it might be an "owner's" hanko rather than the makers hanko. FWIW.

Re: Hanko identification

ah that would make sense then, and I got it from Tairaku indeed. (Thanks for it, I like it FWIW).
For me its nice to know about the unknown or more known shaku's\company's\creators I play. It gives it a bit of history to the playing.
