I like the search engine too! I use it a lot actually, aside from having read almost all of the archives here over the last few months.

I missed the above thread - and for some reason "best titles" was too-obvious for me to figure out on my own. I'd probably try "essential recordings" "shakuhachi canon" etc. before anything as simple as "best titles" would occur to me.

Seriously though, the first link edosan posted was basically what I was after - a top-tier list of published archival recordings of basic core material by definitive players.
