Music Stand Light

Sounds kind of crazy but I am having a hard time finding a good light to use on my music stand.  I had been using a little battery operated clip on book light however it didn't do a very thorough job of lighting all of both pages in my music book.  For Xmas my partner kindly gave me a much broader clip on light that also ran on batteries. The light coverage was excellent unfortunately the regular batteries only lasted for an hour and my rechargeables browned out at the 20 minute mark.

It would make sense to have some sort of light weight plug in light as I do have outlets nearby but the only corded light I could find were rather heavy duty looking orchestra lights meant for the skookum black music stands we used to use in high school band.  I'm not sure my lightweight silver metal stand could handle the top heavy threat of an old school light like that.  So, while I was doing my web search I started to wonder what other shakuhachi players have rigged up to illuminate their late night winter practice sessions.

Looky here:

       http://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Bright-Xtr … amp;sr=1-1

Uses two LEDs, so it's very good light, with low battery drain (uses AAA'a). Only weighs 4.2 oz.; only costs USD16-20. Positive customer reviews.

More options here:

Re: Music Stand Light

Thanks for the links Edosan, they are similar to the ones I found in my search as well.

My concern is that I have found that battery life for a lot of these lights is an issue and other users, according to numerous reviews, have had similar disappointments with the battery powered lights.

Brightness, portability and overall functional design can be found in many music stand lights however if the triple A batteries die after a few hours of playing its far too costly to run these types of lights.  I generally play 1 to 1 1/2 hours per night.  I'd go through a lot of batteries in a single winter with the battery powered music stand light.

That particular light claimss 30 hours on a set of batteries, and you'd probably get more by investing in some Li-ion rechargeables (not particularly
cheap though). Another option came up which also had LEDs (only way to go, IMO), and was battery powered, and had an optional AC adaptor, but the light itself cost about 60 bucks. Add on the cost of the adaptor and you can buy a lot of batteries for the other thing. Also, the ship weight is 2 pounds, and it's displayed on a school-type music stand.

Here you go (dunno about the weight, though): http://www.mightybright.com/Music_Light … etail.html

USD35, including optional AC adaptor. (plus shipping smile )

Or: http://www.mightybright.com/Music_Light … etail.html  USD40, including AC adaptor, several intensity settings.

Re: Music Stand Light

Yup, the LED light WITH the adapter does make a lot of sense....

The light I got for Xmas also boasted of long battery life....but the boasts were nothing but hot air when compared to real life use.
