The beautiful tone does not indicate someone about to pass this life.

Re: Masakazu Yoshizawa

No, it certainly doesn't! I don't know if it is that musical inspiration can transcend physical situations or just the sheer power of his personality. I suppose it was some combination of both. There was supposed to be one more session but Masa couldn't make it. At one point Osamu asked "Are we doing the right thing here?" Hiromi answered "Look at the smile on his face".  The whole 14 years I was with him were filled with me hitting ever deeper levels of awareness of  how heavy he was. I don't think I got it all yet.
To me this peace in particular was his death poem.

That piece made the back of my neck vibrate. Hearing a lifetime of practice. Subtle, rare, and honest; with great depth. Thank you. Time to track down a copy of the CD and learn more about the artist. Big respect to the Universal Flute.

Zen is not easy.
It takes effort to attain nothingness.
And then what do you have?

Re: Masakazu Yoshizawa

Edosan,
Thanks for the links. Ordered the CD instead the mp3s in hopes that it has liner notes.

On an entirely unrelated matter, I noticed that when I typed "Big respect to the Universal Flute)" into the previous post, the magical Shakuhachi BBQ website writes it as...

However, that's changed since April Fool's passed. I kind of miss it. I like giving respect to the Universal Sloth Machine better.

The thickness of the bamboo has some effect, I just do not know how noticeable it is to the sound in the hands of an experienced player. The end of my shakuhachi is shaved root and it has a very resonant Ro.

Chris, Toby seems to have quite competently laid this sort of nonsense to rest months ago. There is absolutely no scientific way that you
can test this sort of conjecture. My Ichijo 1.8 has a very resonant Ro, and it ain't shaved at all. Whatever does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

If anyone sees Ed, have him come back to the BBQ!
