Hey, Edosan, Thank you for the musical treat, just fantastic. Maybe I should dump my shakuhachi, one of the world's most difficult instruments to learn and move on to something like this, it's got's to be easier.

Well, she does make it look easy (or at least doable), but she's probably been at it since she was 10 or 11.

It's not easier.

Yes Pipa IS a very hard instrument. Shakuhachi when you can blow decently and got the fingerings right is NOT that hard to play.
When it comes to Chinese music Guzheng is an easy one sure you can play difficult stuff but it is an easy one.

Wow thats really great she looks like she really feels the music

Right, when you can blow decently... how long does that take?
As far as string instruments, aren't they all kind of easy until you start developing "touch".

Well to just blow correctly it should not take more than 1 year IF you have a teacher IF you spend lots of time to get it right considering that you need to have a decent flute recommended by your teacher then it should be an easy ride after. The main issue is reading scores and playing them in tune and in the right rhythm etc just blowing is not so magical it is like weight lifting.

I can't say I totally disagree with those "if"s in there. As far as the weight lifting analogy, it can take a really long time to move up to those heavy weights. Although, then I guess that would go past the definition of "decent". The problem with shakuhachi is that "decent" doesn't mean that you can just stop at 20 pounds and say it's better than most. Even the slightest delay between the intention of starting a note and actually getting it started is going to cause problems. It's like you've got to get up to bench pressing 500 pounds before tone production will not be an issue with even the simplest songs. Anybody who nails it in a year I think must be very talented even with a good flute and teacher.

Hey! Guys! I thought the definition of a smiley face after a sentence meant I was joking or being sarcastic! Take it easy! Just trying to be funny.... I still play the shakuhachi. Jeez. I'm going to start my new shugo and not post for one year and just practice shakuhachi.
