I had a good "Outside Tradition" moment last night. I was hired by a James Brown cover band to flesh out their horn section at a gig. Trombone, Alto Sax and.......Shakuhachi. It was fun to play those familiar licks on the bamboo. The other musicians liked it and the women were swooning.

Nice. I like James Brown.. Would have loved to have been there.

That is awesome as. What ever happened to horns of dillemma? Would have loved to see that in action. Would have made my day.
Also would be something to show some of my arrogant "Brass" friends, those who are so called jazz-purist, who dearly look down on
all flutes(which is fine with me), but also think shakuhachi doesn't stand up to other "real" wind instruments(which is not fine with me).
Cheers, Brian

Now I can tell my band's horn section that shakuhachi is acceptable since you have lent it your professional cachet...
