Rejoining the international Shakuhachi community

Hi everyone,

I haven't been invloved much in things Shakuhachi execpt for my own playing in recents years.  With the passing of Yokoyama-sensei I decde to peak back in here from time to time and maybe share some of my past experiences for anyone who is interested.
Here is my brief bio:
I came to Japan in 1976 after becoming enthralled by the Shakuhachi after attending a concert of November Steps for Shakuhachi and Biwa, composed by Takemitsu Toru and performed by Katsuya Yokoyama and Kinshi Tsuruta with the Boston Symphony Orchestra ( conducted by Seiji Osawa) in 1974 at Tanglewood.

I came to Japan in 1976. Studied with Master Yoshikazu Iwamoto in Tokyo for 3 years until he left for the UK and then studied with Master Katsuya Yokoyama for over 10 years taking a junshihan with the Chikushinkai. I was fortunate to take a seminar with Master Watazumi Doso Roshi. Performed traditional and Kindai works with the Hogaku Salad (Nagano) and various Jazz and contemporary and New Age ensembles. Interest in contemporary music I also studied with John Kaizan Neptune.

My interests range from Dokyoku, traditional Sankyoku, Minyo, contemporary and Jazz Shakuhachi. I am currently living in Nagano, Japan

Re: Rejoining the international Shakuhachi community

Welcome to the forum, Paul; it looks like you've been involved with shakuhachi for quite a long time.  I remember talking with you briefly at Bisei at the festival back in 1994.

Re: Rejoining the international Shakuhachi community

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
Hi Daniel,  Was that the first festival at Bisei?  I think I have a bunch of photos from then.  I will dig them up and scan them.
Tairaku,  I will post an account fo the Watazumi workshop.  It took place in 1978 or 79 so my recall won't be perfect...

You can just post it in "miscellaneous shakuhachi related".

Here's what we say about photos. http://shakuhachiforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=7

Paul,
Since you have your own website, you may also be able to host your scanned images on your own server, or with the outfit that hosts your website, and link to them there.

Again, the posting format would be: [img]URL link to hosted image, flickr or another host[/img]

This link: http://www.shakuhachiforum.com/help.php#bbcode or the "BBCode" link just below (same thing) will give you more info on formatting in forum posts.
