Why are some flutes made in 2 pieces?

They can be taken apart for easier transport but the main reason for the two part shakuhachi is that when the flute is in shorter sections it is easier to work on the bore as is necessary especially with jiari flutes.

Even more important: two sections permits precise adjustment of the length of the flute to attain the desired pitch.
