Last Monday, Bruce Segerman died of a massive heart attack while playing honkyoku for a group of meditating yoga students. His last breaths were, literally, spent sharing the sounds of shakuhachi with the world.
In a way, I was his "bamboo grandfather, as he studied with two of my students, Daniel Nyohaku Soergel and Barbara Nyoi Krooss.
We are requesting the shakuhachi community to help complete his unfinished performance, creating an aurora borealis of sound around the planet. Please join us in wishing his spirit a safe passage by playing Banshiki, Tamuke, Kyorei, Daiwagaku, a Sanya, or whatever you feel is appropriate.
Many thanks,
Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin
