I am trying to get some information about two pieces that I have been playing (attempting anyway) lately. I was hoping to find out what the story/history is behind them, so that I can play them in with the more appropriate emotion, I guess is what I am looking for.
They are Sashi (honkyoku), I have a recording from Stan Richardson's 2 CD "Shakuhachi Meditation Music" which appears to be played along with the version of the sheet music I have. Are there any other recordings of this version? I also have a recording from Takashi Tokuyama's "Hi Kyoku" CD, which seems to be a very different version but the same name. Any help with other recordings and a bit of background of the piece would be great.
The other piece is from Tom Deaver's "Ichiyo Shakuhachi Manual, Volume 2" called Ko Ki (by Hisamoto Genchi). I am wondering about a recording of this as well something about it. It seems to be a very happy, lively, joyful folk tune. The only recording I have is on cassette and would love to find a CD version.
Any help would be great,
Thank you,
Damon

This is usually my first stop, but this time I was not able to come up with anything on Ko Ki and all it says for Sashi is "This is a Koten piece from the Itchoken school.". I do thank you for the advice though.

Perhaps Tom Deaver can tell you something about Ko Ki:

Instead of clicking the link, copy the entire URL (from http to html, inclusive) and paste it into your browser's address bar. The URL is good; not sure why the link is incomplete.
