Repairing a crack

I was making a sideblown flute for a friend and after 8 hours of work, when it was almost finished.... it cracked!
It's a very fine crack from the blowing hole doen to the first node.

I put it in a damp towel while going to work, and when I got home the crack was completely invisible. So I put a few really tight binding (monofilement).
But when the flute was drying from the towel-treatment, the crack opened up again. It seems no bindings in this world will hold it.

So here's my problem...

How do I glue the crack?
I have to add glue inside the crack when it's open, but then I need to get it completely tight (wet towel tight) before the glue cures.
How do I do this? How do I apply superglue or epoxy inside the crack and then close it up?

Very grateful for any help.

Re: Repairing a crack

Chris,

Here are a few things I've noticed.

If left in a humid box overnight, the bamboo doesn't soak in water. Therefore, it is more receptive to glue.

Another way to approach it is to use adjustable hose clamps on the bamboo. Glue while the crack is open, then screw the clamps tight. This method is more effective with slow curing glues. Sometimes, strong spring clamps can be used as well.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
