Very nicely deconstructed. Another example of why Berklee is all that.

Re: nice article about practising

geni,

Many thanks.

An excellent article and an opportunity for me to apply some needed discipline to my learning.

I have renewed enthusiasm to practice, practice, practice.

Regards,
Phil

Re: nice article about practising

That's awesome Geni, thanks for sharing. Between that, John Neptune's excellent sheet of practice guidlines, Steve Lacy's "Findings" book and James Nyoraku Schlefer's book of shakuhachi practice exercises, we shakuhachi players could stay busy for a lifetime.

I like what he said about practicing for a specific goal like a concert or recording. It's true that working towards these ends sharpens one's technique much faster than simply practicing as a routine.

I would like to add that I never practiced as such in my musical career until I started with shakuhachi, I just played music. Shakuhachi has made me appreciate practicing, but it doesn't come naturally to me because I started too late. So you beginners out there..........develop good practice routines now so that it will become second nature. It's a lot easier than trying to do that later on!
