Marco Lienhard has mastered the shakuhachi under Katsuya Yokoyama. He studied the Fue and the taiko as a member of Ondekoza (1981- 1998). In 1995, M. Lienhard founded the group Taikoza (a New York based Taiko group). Lienhard has released many CDs (Taiko and shakuhachi) to critical acclaim including Taikoza: Beginnings. Lienhard has performed worldwide in some of the world’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, Hammerstein Ballroom, Boston Symphony Hall, Bolshoi Winter Circus in Moscow, Osaka Castle Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Center and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
M. Lienhard also ran with Ondekoza the perimeter of the US on foot from 1990-93, running a total of 9000 miles and performing hundreds of performances along the way.
He was the featured shakuhachi player in the Temple of the Golden Pavilion with the NYC Opera. Marco has toured all over the world with Ondekoza and Taikoza. Recently toured Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Republic of Georgia, Mexico and Japan. Taikoza and Marco Lienhard can be heard on the soundtrack of the award winning (for best score) Nintendo game: Red Steel for the Wii.
